Advanced Doula Training: Home Birth
Our DONA-approved Advanced Doula Training Workshop is designed for experienced birth doulas who want to expand their services into the home birth and birth center settings.
Our course offers you an opportunity to
- Explore your feelings about the safety of home birth,
- Acquire skills to deal with problem labors and hospital transfer,
- Learn the differences in caring for a woman choosing to birth in her space, and
- Practice connecting and communicating with her selected birth team.
Completion of this training includes 11.5 contact hours of continuing education that can be used for your DONA re-certification.
Am I be ready for the Advanced Doula Training?
If you have completed a DONA-approved Birth Doula Training and attended at least 10 births as a doula, you are ready to join us at our Advanced Doula Training.
You will benefit most from our workshop if you have also worked with VBAC clients, women with high risk health conditions, and attended a few cesarean births.
Ultimately, the focus of your doula work is on the family’s birth goals.

Class Schedule
Day 1 – 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Every training is personalized and is a collaboration of the group’s experiences described in their questionnaires and the instructor’s in depth knowledge and experience of home birth.
The evening session is an exploration of the doula’s feelings, experiences, and concerns with home birth.
We use pre-course questionnaires, videos, supplementary literature, and role-play scenarios to enhance communication and teach practical skills.
Day 2 – 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
This training is designed to enhance your skills in community based birth. We assist you to recognize various communication styles and understand their impact on team work.
Doulas will explore the differences and similarities of community birth to institutional birth. Emphasis is placed on the importance of appropriate, culturally sensitive and ethical support of birthing families regardless of their selected birth space.
We will help you develop advanced birth doula abilities and skills. Videos as well as scenarios will be used to enhance the learning process. Participants learn how to support women and their partners in coping with both complicated and uncomplicated labors at home, as well as unexpected hospital transfers.

Workshop Preparation
Your class will be personalized based upon your questionnaire and that of your classmates.
Prior to the start of this course, please do the following
- Submit our online Doula Home Birth Questionnaire within 1 week of the training
- Read The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace by Chapman & White or The Five Love Languages, Gary Chapman or review the website http://5lovelanguages.com

DONA Advanced Doula Training Registration
Your registration includes 11.5 contact hours of Continuing Education from DONA International that may be used towards re-certification.
Complete our online registration form and submit the full amount of $400 to reserve a spot in the workshop. Please note that there is a $50 Late Fee for registrations made within 7 days prior to the course start date.
Important Cancellation Information
If cancellation is received in writing by one week prior to workshop, a full refund less a $150.00 administrative fee will be refunded. After that time, no refunds will be given; however, you may designate a substitute to use your registration or transfer it to another training within 1 year of the cancelled training.
